You have to admire Va'del's spirit and drive. I was again sucked into Dean Murray's Guadel Chronical world where an orphaned outcast struggles to find love and acceptance in a society that struggles to survive in harsh elements and against attacking forces. Va'del doesn't have a hidden agenda, he just does what's right and necessary. Even though she is one of the weaker daughters, Jain is a heroine in her own right as she loves Va'del without reservation and always supports him.One of the reasons I love these stories is that they don't get bogged down with hundreds of pages of tedious political examinations and over involved comparisons between the People and the Low Landers like the Game of Thrones books. It's enough to know how and why they are different without a full explanation of the origins and evolution of their differing ideologies - although I did like the "lore time" bit.
I really like the world created for these books. It's different from anything I can readily think of and exploring it could take a legion of books (hint, hint)! Thanks Dean for a refreshing new world to explore with characters we want to spend time with.

I am really enjoying this series. What I find particularly good about these books is the presence of strong characters both male and female, far too often authors fall into the trap of making one gender seem stronger by making the opposite unrealistically weak/idiotic. This author seems to strike a good balance by showing how the differences in thought process can lead to both strength and weakness (in both genders) depending on the situation and the manner in which it is handled.
If I have one criticism, it is that there were a few scenes that were a little bit more melodramatic than was needed to get the point across. Nevertheless it was a good read and I eagerly await the next installment.
I don't give a book 5 stars very often but I really thought this book was really interesting. I was reluctant to give the first book "Frozen Prospects (The Guadel Chronicles Volume 1)" 5 stars because I wasn't sure if the series was worth my time and there were still so many unanswered questions, but I like how this book gave it closure and I found it very different and memorable from other books so I gave it 5 stars.
Another good book from Dean Murray!
My mind was thrilled as Va'del continually amazed me. The character was warm and bitter; happy and suicidal; loving and murderous. As his ages at the Capital his friendship with both Jain and Cindi increases. Surprised at his proposed candidacy he almost thwarts his Fortune seemingly being spun by the Goddess herself. The author also gives us a realistic peek into the Capital's religion by providing a historical rendering of their past.
Interesting book, A young man against the world. One supporter a forbidden love. All of these things blended together to form an interest holding narrative even though you can anticipate the out come of some of the sub-narratives? CAREFUL some surprises abound. had a good price that was attractive to promote his series, lessons in love and patience abound. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The storyline was great. Character development was great. I loved the whole series. There were some typos, misspellings here and there but not enough to ruin the story for me. The writing was very good. For example, during battle scenes I felt as I were actually there fighting along with the characters ... even though I don't know how to fight. ☺
I could not put this book down. Actually, I should say that I could not stop reading this book, as I am reading it on my iPad App. The only thing I didn't like was the over abundance of wounding the hero had to suffer. I thought that was really overdone and unnecessary. I read the first book in the series, and immediately upon finishing it, had to order this one. And got it immediately. That is what I love about the . You INSTANTLY have the book you want with just a tap of your finger. No going out in the rain or the cold, no warming up the car, or fighting the traffic, just instant results. And now on to Volume 3.
